Why this journal exists
StormPrepper is written from a shore house in Seaside Park, New Jersey — a home that lives with the Atlantic hurricane season every year and the nor'easters that follow it. This is a preparedness journal for people like our neighbors: suburban and coastal homeowners who want to be ready, not alarmed.
What we believe
- Preparation is boring, and that's the point. The most valuable prep is a closet with water and flashlights, a charged power station before the storm, and a shutoff valve you can find in the dark.
- Sizing beats stockpiling. Most people either buy a $3,000 setup they don't need or a $150 gadget that can't run their fridge. We do the math so you can buy exactly enough.
- Storms are seasonal; readiness is a habit. Atlantic hurricane season ends November 30; winter outage season starts the same week. A home that stays ready year-round barely notices the transition.
- No fear, no hype. We don't sell bunker fantasies or end-of-the-world countdowns. If an article can't be justified by weather that actually happened here, it doesn't get published.
How we make money
StormPrepper is reader-supported. Some of our articles link to products we recommend — backup power stations, storm gear, storage supplies. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That money funds the journal: research, testing, and keeping this site free of banner ads.
Two promises: a commission never changes what we recommend, and every page with affiliate links says so clearly. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
What we are not
We're not emergency responders, electricians, plumbers, or medical professionals. Everything here is general information for planning purposes. In a real emergency, follow your local officials' instructions and call 911.
